KIND CLOTHES TO CELEBRATE DIVERSITY AND SUPPORT PEOPLE WITH AUTISM

AutWear is a clothing line for people living with autism.  Our mission is twofold; to celebrate and support people with autism, and to help promote kindness and understanding in those who might not have first hand knowledge of autism.

As the mother of an autistic child, I’m aware of the disapproving looks and comments made every day by people who don’t understand autism.   1 in 36 boys and 1 in 151 girls have autism.   Onlookers often assume my son is misbehaving, when he is actually just trying to cope with the amount of information he’s taking in, information which neurotypical people tune out.   For a person with autism, the world can be overwhelming.   As a result, it is essential to develop coping mechanisms, such as clapping, verbal stimming or jumping, to focus the mind.  These behaviors calm the person with autism, but can cause others to judge or stare, which adds to the anxiety being felt.

Each AutWear T.shirt has a simple and clear statement that gently educates the observer about an aspect of autistic behavior, helping understanding and lessening judgement.

In November, Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones / Fast & Furious) posted about AutWear on Instagram.  Overnight her post had 132,000 likes and hundreds of comments of support and appreciation from families living with autism.
